My Grandparents, Reginald and Dorothy Orr, started the Al-Orr brand, manufacturing Tungsten Carbide tipped chisels, in 1956 in Brighouse, West Yorkshire. When he retired in 1979 my father, Roger Travis, took over the company, later adding the Drake and Neasham brand to create the company now known as R.H. & G. Travis and Son.
After 17 years working for the family business, I took over the running of the company in 2009, with the intention of continuing to produce Tungsten Carbide tipped chisels to the quality and standard that we have maintained for over 50 years. In the same year we acquired the Riley company and all the know how of how to make the excellent quality fire sharp tools, tipped pitching tools and hammers.
We supply to stonemasons, sculptors and engravers worldwide from our workshop in Brighouse using traditional manufacturing techniques. All the tools listed on the website can be made on a one-off basis if required, and if you can’t find what you need, contact us, as we may be able to create a bespoke tool to your specifications. Every tool is hand-finished to the highest quality, in the unlikely event that the tool fails because of a manufacturing fault we will repair or replace it for you.
